Gran Valdano

No vull que això sigui un blog de futbol, però l’actualitat m’hi porta. Diuen que el futbol anglès ara és el gran dominador d’Europa. No sé si és exacte, però jo crec que tenen la millor Lliga, segur. I també és indubtable que la gran professionalització dels clubs anglesos, que funcionen com a empreses i que, per tant, estan sanejats, ha fet que es situin al capdavant d'Europa. Aquest any tres dels quatre semifinalistes de la Champions eren anglesos.

Dins de la gran millora que ha viscut el futbol anglès hi ha dos clubs que havien tingut èpoques daurades però que havien caigut en la mediocritat. Aquests dos clubs, quasi paral·lelament, han tornat al primer pla i passen una nova etapa daurada. Són el Liverpool i el Chelsea, que estan entrenats per un espanyol (Benítez) i un portuguès (Mourinho), respectivament. Cap d’aquests dos clubs estan entre els meus preferits: són avariciosos i, en comptes de construïr futbol, juguen a destruïr.

Avui he llegit un article sobre Jorge Valdano, un madridista pel qui sento un gran respecte des que, sent entrenador del Tenerife, va guanyar dues vegades al Madrid i va permetre que el Barça guanyés dues lligues consecutives a la darrera jornada. El Valdano ha criticat l’estil de joc dels dos equips i ha posat el dit a la nafra. Atribueix la seva garreperia, el seu joc destructiu, al fet que els seus entrenadors mai no van ser bons jugadors. Ho ha fet en un article al Marca que han citat al The Guardian. Diu això:

The Argentinian, who scored in the 1986 World Cup final and has a respected reputation as a football intellectual, claimed that Mourinho and Benítez mistrust talent because of their own failure to make it as players and said their approach is bad news for the game.

Writing in Spain's best-selling newspaper, Marca, Valdano insisted: “Football is made up of subjective feeling, of suggestion - and, in that, Anfield is unbeatable. Put a shit hanging from a stick in the middle of this passionate, crazy stadium and there are people who will tell you it's a work of art. It's not: it's a shit hanging from a stick.”

“Both of those things stem from one key factor: neither Mourinho nor Benítez made it as a player. That has made them channel all their vanity into coaching. Those who did not have the talent to make it as players do not believe in the talent of players, they do not believe in the ability to improvise in order to win football matches. In short, Benítez and Mourinho are exactly the kind of coaches that Benítez and Mourinho would have needed to have made it as players.”
